Charlotte Elizabeth Morton, 96, went to be with the Lord on June 7th. “Miss Charlotte” was born June 1, 1918 to the late James D. and Katie Watkins Morton of Drakes Branch, Virginia.
Miss Morton graduated from the Virginia State Teachers College at Farmville, now Longwood University, and then went on to teach for forty-six years in Front Royal, VA, before retiring to Keysville, VA. There she could regularly be found at Sheldon’s Restaurant with her longtime friend, Claiborne Bouldin, Jr. Her three brothers, William Watkins Morton, James D. Morton, Jr., and Horace B. Morton have all predeceased her. She had most recently lived in Norfolk, VA, near her brother Horace and niece Nancy M. Vaughan, and then later in Manchester, NH, near her nephew, James D. Morton III.
Charlotte is survived by her niece Nancy and her son and his wife, Kent and Lilia Vaughan of Richmond, VA; and by her nephew Jim his wife, Kitty of Derry, NH, and their children, Michelle Morton McKenna of Edmund, OK, and Christopher Morton of Epping, NH.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Briery Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Keysville, VA, at 11 a.m., Friday, June 20th. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home of Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
