Douglas Littell “Tell” Hancock born on August 30, 1928, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 19, 2016, after a courageous battle with renal failure. He was preceded in death by his parents Hunter Marshall and Emma DeFord Hancock; his brother, Marshall DeFord Hancock; an infant daughter, Judith Maxine Hancock; and an infant son, James Walter Hancock. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Elner Hamlett Hancock; one son, Robert Hunter Hancock Sr. Claire; four daughters, Linda H. Hicks, Janet H. Slaw, Carolyn H. Amos, and Ginny H. Elder; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Mary H. Grove, and Margaret J. Hancock; two nephews, Douglas M. Hancock, and James H. Hancock; and their families. He had many friends but four special friends, Bill Childress, Tom Hale, Charky Paulette “Chocolate”, and his niece Sheila Jones. He was known for his love of hunting and baseball. He received a baseball scholarship from Hampden-Sydney College. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, and baseball especially watching his favorite team The New York Yankees. His favorite pastime was reading the newspaper.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2016, in Oak View Presbyterian Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. The family welcomes friends and family at the home of his daughter, Ginny Elder, 120 Taro Road, Cullen, VA 23934. In lieu of flowers please consider Oak View Presbyterian Cemetery Fund. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of the arrangements.
