Elizabeth Ann Daniels, always Betty to family and friends, was born in South Hampton Hospital, Suffolk County NY to Francis Magee and Florence Callahan Magee on January 3, 1931. On July 15, 2012, she peacefully went to God.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband for 61 years, Clarence LeRoy Daniels formerly of Amagansett, NY, Long Island and living now in Meherrin, Va. They were wed in June 23, 1951. Mrs. Daniels was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Francis. Betty will also be mourned by four nieces and four nephews and countless friends.
Mrs. Daniels was the bookkeeper for the Golden Eagle store in East Hampton for almost 25 years. She also managed many rental properties for the store owner during that period.
After 35 years in Long Island, in 1993, Betty and Clarence moved to Charlotte County, Virginia. They soon became active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meherrin, VA. Betty was a quilter and worked on the fund-raiser quilt projects for over 25 years. She also volunteered for the same period as the parish bookkeeper and eventually took charge of counting, recording and depositing parish monies.
Even as Betty began to lose her sight, and had to resign her volunteer post as church “funds counter”, she took over the dessert table for all church dinners and fund-raisers.
Betty planted flower gardens in N.Y. and Virginia. She liked to tend to her big garden transplanting, trading and sharing flowers with many other happy gardeners.
Betty loved to bake and always had the secret recipes that everyone relished, especially for sweets! She loved any kind of sweet treats or desserts! Sweets for the sweet lady in pink.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2012, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Meherrin, VA, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
