Elizabeth Dixon Howard of Abilene, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, surrounded by her devoted family. She was reunited with her loving husband, Clarence A. Howard. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through her struggle with cancer.
She was the only daughter of the late Clyde J. Dixon, Sr. and Lottie Wilmouth Dixon. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark A. Taylor, three brothers, Clyde J. Dixon, Jr., Bernard Dixon, and Roger Dixon.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Susan Taylor Scruggs and her husband, Scott of Abilene; son, Larry J. Alger of Keysville; brother, Reginald Dixon of Abilene; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Beth was a longtime active member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Abilene and held numerous committee positions. She was passionate about the church van ministry. She invited and offered transportation to church services, revival, and Vacation Bible School. She loved children of all ages and was affectionately known as “Nannie Bet”.
Possessing a true servant’s heart, Beth faithfully cared for family and friends throughout her whole lifetime. She generously shared her love and her home.
The family will receive friends at the home on Friday, June 6, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral to celebrate Beth’s full life will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Abilene. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, The American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
