George Everett Ingram

George E. Ingram, BMCM, BSN, Ret. went to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Mr. Ingram had been a resident of Lunenburg County, VA for the past 27 years after retiring from the U. S. Navy after a 40 year career. He had served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War and various other foreign conflicts across the globe. During his naval career, he served as Master Chief of the Pacific Fleet and was nominated for Master Chief of the Navy. Mr. Ingram loved his sweetheart, his family, his beloved dog and cat, Sandy and Smokey, his numerous friends, his country, and his God. His military career took him all over the world to numerous ports of call, but his heart was always where his family was. He and his wife moved to Lunenburg County upon their retirement in 1989, and embraced their new home as the community embraced them. He served on the Lunenburg Board of Supervisors from November, 2000, to December, 2009, and served as chairman during that tenure. He was a member of Meherrin Baptist Church and served as a deacon and trustee. He was also a member of the Lunenburg County Medical Board, the V.F.W., and the Ruritans. . Mr. Ingram was a huge supporter of youth baseball and softball serving as both a coach and umpire for over 40 years. One of his primary hobbies was football. His favorite pro team was the Green Bay Packers, and he despised the Washington Redskins with a passion! He supported the Lunenburg Central High School sports program, particularly its football program, by being a member of the Booster Club and by firing the cannon at home games for many years.
Mr. Ingram is survived by his sweetheart of almost 38 years, Dee Marie Ingram Green Bay, VA, a brother, Joe Ingram Oregon, his children, Toni Crawford Ohio, Carol Ann Martin Texas, Pierre Stovall & Sonia California, Theresa Gessling California, Jeanine Lee California, Dominic Stovall Virginia, Jodie Beezley & Stan Tennessee, Naomi Mitchell Virginia, Denise Chapman & Ronnie Tennessee, Tina Chapman & Edward Webster Virginia, and David Stovall Virginia, 23 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Howard and Mae, his father-in-law, Floyd Shaff, a brother, Joe Ingram, two sisters, Lavinia and Patricia, a daughter, Cherie Hunter Smith, a son, Larry Lombardo, a son-in-law, Bill Crawford, and a grandson, Jimmy Jack Franklin.
Services for Mr. Ingram will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Meherrin Baptist Church, Meherrin, VA. Interment followed at Meherrin Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, on Monday, May 9, 2016, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Meherrin Baptist Church or an organization that supports Veterans or their families.
