Hunter Marshall Tharpe, age 92, of Wylliesburg, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Verna M. Tharpe of Wylliesburg; one son, Paul M. Tharpe of Wylliesburg, and his fiancée, Darlene Cisco of Saxe; two daughters, Nancy L. Tharpe of Wylliesburg, and Elizabeth T. Wilmoth of Drakes Branch; two grandsons, Weldon Robert Wilmoth, Jr., and wife, Kellie of Red Oak, Christopher M. Wilmoth and wife Tracy of Dinwiddie; and a granddaughter, Linda Wright of Covington; three great-grandchildren, Nadia McCormick, Austin Brockwell, and Colton Brockwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry R. and Hettie G. Tharpe; six sisters, Ellen Tharpe, Kate Skelton, Susie Hatcher, Eva King, Lena Skelton, and Annie Tharpe; two brothers, Claude Tharpe and Henry Tharpe; and a son-in-law, Weldon R. Wilmoth.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2014, in Hebron United Methodist, Saxe, VA, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, 147 Tobacco Lane, Wylliesburg, VA 23967. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
