Kelly W. Powell, age 94, of Keysville, VA, a retired tobacco farmer, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. He was born to Archer L. and Annie Dalton Powell on October 30, 1920, in Burkeville, VA. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 58 years, Norma W. Powell; his brothers, “Tip” and “Pete” Powell; and sister, Gladys P. Yeatts.
Kelly served in the Army during WWII at the Army Hospital in Trinidad. He loved bluegrass music, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. After retiring from farming, he worked for Chesapeake Corporation for a number of years and then raised a big garden each year, producing the best tomatoes in Lunenburg County!
Kelly is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Glen Hutchinson of Keysville, VA; son, Kelly C. Brenda Powell of Keysville, VA; grandsons, Todd Jennie Hutchinson of West Point, VA, Ryan Powell of Keysville, VA; and granddaughter, Grace-Kelly Eddie Pyle of Keysville, VA; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends and family members.
Family night will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2015, in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Keysville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charlotte County Rescue Squad would be appreciated. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
