Lockie Eli Barksdale, age 72, passed gently into heaven to be with his loved ones who have gone before him on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital. A native of Phenix, VA, Lockie lived in Rustburg, VA, with family for the past seven years.
Lockie was preceded in death by; his parents, John and Iva Barksdale of Phenix, VA; and his brother, Riley Barksdale of Madisonville, VA. He had two sisters-in-law, Gracie Barksdale and Fran Barksdale of Phenix, VA; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Shores of Red Oak, VA, and John Price of Phenix, VA, who went before him. Lockie also was preceded in death by two nephews that he loved and would want to recognize them; Horace Lee Garrett, Jr. “Boo”, and John A. Price II “Little John”.
Survivors include sisters, Violet Shores of Red Oak, VA, Emma “Dell” Garrett and her husband, Bunny Garrett of Lynchburg, VA, and Patricia Harding and her husband, Jimmy Harding of Clarksville, VA; also brothers, James “Hoopie” Barksdale of Phenix, VA, and Douglas “Ray” Barksdale and his wife Lois “Snoopy” Barksdale of Rustburg, VA. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Shirley Blanton and her husband, Nicky Blanton. Lockie is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved and respected him for his gentle nature and the place he held in our families and in our hearts.
On Saturday, November 10, 2012, visitation and a graveside service will be held at his home church of Bethel Baptist in Phenix, VA. The church will be open for visitation from 11:00 a.m., to 11:45 a.m., and the graveside service will be held from 11:45 a.m., to noon. Services will be conducted by Pastor Mark Grooms of Lynchburg, VA.

The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of the arrangements.
