Mildred Thorpe Stilfield

Mrs. Mildred Thorpe Stilfield, 91, of Chase City, Virginia, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013.
Mrs. Stilfield was born January 31, 1921, to the late Frank G. Thorpe and Maude Parrish. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Stilfield; her daughter, Phyllis J. Stilfield; two sisters, Caroline Blondino and Margaret Tharpe; and her stepfather, Willie Parrish. She is survived by her brother, Frank G. Thorpe, Jr., and his wife, Teresa; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Mrs. Stilfield was employed in a responsible security position at the Department of Defense for 20 years. She enjoyed travel and visited countries throughout the world fulfilling her need to be a life-long learner. After moving back to the Southside area, she became very involved in the community, making friends wherever she went. She loved to dance at venues throughout the state as a member of the “Charlotte County Country Hams” clog dance troupe. She also attended exercise classes with her friends at the local YMCA until very recently. An avid animal lover, Mrs. Stilfield was always supportive of animal welfare as well as adopting her own beloved pets from the local shelters. As a devout Southern Baptist, Mrs. Stilfield was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Drakes Branch, as well as attending Wednesday night services at First Christian Church in Chase City.
Family and friends will all miss her loving nature, sense of humor and the joy she shared with all those who were fortunate enough to know her. To honor her charitable nature, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to one of the following organizations in her honor: Muscular Dystrophy Association; Lake Country SPCA, Friendship Baptist Church, or your favorite charity. The family wishes to Thank her friends and neighbors for their love, support and many acts of kindness.
Services will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 9, 2:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM prior to the service. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
