Nellie Selester Duffey Martin, age 97, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at her home in Randolph, VA. She was born on April 24, 1913, in Charlotte County, Virginia, and was the daughter of Frederick Holland and Susie Cassada Duffey. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Martin Moore of Richmond, VA, Rochelle Martin Smith of Randolph, VA; three granddaughters, Sherry S. Green Bill of Randolph, VA, Terry S. Klein Gary of Red Oak, VA, Michelle M. Muncy Allen of North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Kristopher Klein Jordan of Kentucky, Kaitlin Klein of Richmond, VA, Danielle Gwaltney of North Carolina, Joshua and Jeremy Batton of North Carolina, Jason and Stephen Muncy of North Carolina; one great-great-grandson, Camden Klein of Kentucky, two sisters, Corrine Watts of Blue Ridge, VA, Hilda Norhaft Phil of New Jersey; and a host of nieces and nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Emmett V. Martin; a son, Gilbert K. Martin; six brothers, Chester, Berkley, Frederick, Edsel, Edward, and Graham Duffey; four sisters, Alva Wade, Bessie Duffey, Shirley Duffey, and Hazel Puckett.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, November 6, 2010 in Providence Presbyterian Church, Nathalie, VA, with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund or the Charlotte County Rescue Squad. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
