
Andy Layton “Layton” Powell age 66, of Keysville, VA passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on October 22, 2019. Layton was born on February 9, 1953, the third child of Thomas L. Powell, Sr., and Frances Bishop Powell. He was a graduate of Central High School in Victoria, and a lifelong resident of Lunenburg County. Layton was a tobacco and cattle farmer. His passion was coaching Diamond Fever Softball and he did so until his health prevented it. Those that knew him will always remember his quick wit and his cowboy hat or his baseball hat with his sunglasses.
Layton is survived by his daughters, Magen and Marlo “Molly”; his siblings, Annie P. McReynolds (Mac), Thomas L. Powell Jr., (Debra), and Tammie P. Jackson (Charles); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family will forever be grateful to Hazel Gee and his many caregivers.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, with interment to follow in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home on Friday, October 25, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Union Grove Baptist Church, Charlotte County Rescue Squad, P O Box 330, Keysville, VA 23947, or The Tisch Brain Tumor Center, DUMC 3624, Durham, NC 27710. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is serving the family.
