
Betty Ann Newbill passed away December 27, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital after suffering a stroke. Born June 1, 1937 in Dryburg, Halifax County, VA, she was the oldest daughter of Carl Newbill, Sr. and Thelma W. Newbill.
Betty attended school in Halifax County, was a graduate of American School, Chicago, IL, and Southside School of Practical Nursing, Farmville. She retired from Centra Southside Community Hospital after more than 25 years of service. She was a dedicated LPN who provided excellent care to her patients and was a mentor and friend to her co-workers.
After retirement, Betty enjoyed many years at home doing various hobbies and activities including: sewing, gardening, watching and attending Nascar racing, UVA and Virginia Tech basketball, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan (David) of Brookneal, her son, Gary (Kem) of Clover; grandchildren, Amanda (Thomas) of Nathalie, Melissa of Cape May, NJ, Andrew (Liz) of Brookneal, Elizabeth (Marshall) of Clarke County, Orry of Richmond, Jay of Clover, and Kelly (Joe) of Nathalie; great-grandchildren, Estella, Carrington, William, and John Thomas of Nathalie, Caroline of Brookneal, Michael, Gabe, Kerri, and John Marshall of Clarke County, and Maverick, Helena, and Merritt of Nathalie. She is also survived by her siblings, Harvey (Edwina) of Dryburg, Nancy (Hal) of Halifax, Larry (Norma) of Halifax, Peggy (Hampton) of Dryburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents, Carl, Sr. and Thelma Newbill; brothers, Carl, Jr., (Sara), Evan (Cecil), and Jackie (Sandra); a special grandson, Clifton; a brother-in-law, Steve; and Tom (Melissa’s fiancé).
A celebration service of Betty’s life will be held January 9, 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Betty’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association or your charity of choice. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
