Burwell Lee Bridges, Sr., age 93, of Keysville, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8, 2019. He was the devoted husband of Joyce Thompson Bridges for sixty years. Burwell retired from Burlington Industries/WestPoint Stevens with 35 years of service.  Born in Chase City, VA, he was the son of the late Virgil Lee and Bertha Crow Bridges. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, R. E., and Jennings; and a step-son James Bowers.  Burwell served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 260.  He was a devout Christian who loved to read the Bible.  He enjoyed traveling, bowling, and talking with friends.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Burwell “Lee” Bridges, Jr., of Keysville, Robert “Warren” Bridges of Brookneal; a granddaughter, Danielle Fifield (Jim) of Farmville; a grandson, Brandon Bowers (Jessica) of Boydton; nieces, Helen Rogers (Jimmy), Verna Mae Bowers, and Linda Bridges all of Boydton; one sister-in-law, Shirley Thompson of Keysville; one brother-in-law, Earley Thompson (Irma) of Williamsburg; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 11, 2019, at Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery, Keysville. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home on Monday, November 11, 2019, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1622 E. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23228,  or the Ash Camp Baptist Church.  The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is serving the family.

    Burwell was a loving and wonderful man full of hugs and smiles every time I saw him. I will always remember the fantastic dinners, holidays and get together’s over at he and Joyce’s house. Im so sorry for everyone’s loss and want to express my condolences and wish the family many thoughts and prayers during this time.

    To the Bridges family, I am so very sorry to hear Mr Bridges passing. I will remember him as a kind, and gentle man. Our times together bowling was so fun. I will always cherish those memories with Mrs Bridges. I so pray for the entire family. Will keep you all in my prayers. May God hold you close during this time.
