On Friday, March 26, 2021, Garland Hyde Hamlett, III (Gary), loving husband and father of three, passed away at the age of 41. Gary was born in Lynchburg, VA, to Garland Hyde Hamlett, Jr. and Julia Golubic Hamlett. He worked at Dominion Power in Clover, VA, for over 21 years. He loved his job and the people he worked with. On May 3, 2008, he married his wife Emily Watkins Hamlett, and they had three children: Sidney Clifton Hamlett, Garland Hyde Hamlett, IV, and Rutherfoord Golubic Hamlett. Gary was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, and brother. Being with family was an integral part of Gary’s life. He loved camping, going to sporting events, Willie Nelson music, the beach, the mountains, his friends, and watching Jeopardy. His favorite place to be though, was on a field somewhere, watching his children play ball. Gary is preceded in death by his grandparents, Garland and Juanita Hamlett and Robert and Peggy Golubic. He is survived by his wife and children, parents, sister, Tiffany Russell and husband Chris, two nieces, Cassidy and Raegan Russell, several other nieces, a nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by a big and loving in-law family.
There will be a private family memorial service held in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to The Barksdale Foundation, PO Box 225, Charlotte Court House, VA, 23923, or Tisch Brain Tumor Center, DUMC 3624 Durham, NC, 27710. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is serving the family.
