Lewis Edward Wilkerson, Jr., age 63, of Keysville, VA, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Edward Wilkerson, Sr., and Frances Schumann Wilkerson.

Lewis is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Dawn Hicks Wilkerson; one brother, Roland Wilkerson (Stacey) of Farmville, VA; two sisters, Patricia Barton of Keysville, VA, Jeanne Roark (Andy) of Green Bay, VA, and other family, a niece, nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephew. He was especially close with Jeff Haertel, who he worked with for many years.

Lewis enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, Nascar, and spending time with his nephews, Bill and Brian Barton. He also enjoyed watching his great nieces and nephew play ball. Lewis was an animal lover.

Lewis was hardworking, ambitious, smart, knowledgeable, and had good instincts about people. He was loyal, and if he gave you his word, he kept it. Lewis loved Dawn and his family. He spent much of his life, and much of his time working to care for them. Lewis never met an animal that didn’t love him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, with interment to follow in the Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery, Meherrin, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meherrin Fire and Rescue, Charlotte County Rescue Squad, or the SPCA. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.

    The whole family has my condolences and prayers. Lewis was a good friend in our years in school together. After returning to VA, Lewis helped me find a job, which I still have today. He always told it like it was for sure. He will be missed in so many ways by so many people.RIP Lewis. May God comfort and give peace to his family and friends.

    Dawn and family, I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Lewis Edward, I can imagine him and my dad ( Homer) telling trucking stories from back in the day.
