Louise was loved deeply by her family and one of the highlights of her life was welcoming her two great-great nieces after waiting 35 years for a baby to be born on her side of the family.
Upon graduating from Louisa County High School, she attended Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond and years later received her Associate’s Degree in Administrative Support Technology from Southside Virginia Community College.
Louise worked for the Virginia State Department for a number of years, and after living in Richmond, Kilmarnock and then Cary, NC, she and her husband Charlie settled in Keysville in the late 1980’s. Louise worked part-time at Southside Virginia Community College initially and was then hired full-time as the Executive Assistant to the Provost. She held that position for 17 years until she retired in 2007.
Louise was happiest when she was outside with her hands in her flower gardens – her beloved daylilies and roses. She knew the names of every daylily in her garden and took such pride in showing them to people who visited her gardens. She was an active member of the American Daylily Society, the Richmond Daylily Society, the Charlottesville Daylily Club and was the current President of the Southern Virginia Daylily Club.
In addition to her love for flowers, Louise loved antiques, hummingbirds, basset hounds and UVA basketball! She also loved to read, especially John Grisham and James Patterson novels and shared her books with friends and family to enjoy. She became a die-hard UVA fan at an early age after going to home basketball games with her beloved father.
Louise was an amazing person who touched many people’s lives. She would say, “there’s nothing like life in the country with so many wonderful friends and neighbors!”
She was an active member of Ash Camp Baptist Church in Keysville where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Louise’s service will be recorded for those who can’t make it and then posted on Ash Camp Baptist Church Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southside SPCA, PO Box 66 Meherrin, VA 23954. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.

We were neighbors to Louise for 13 years. She was family to us. She joined us for Thanksgiving and Easter dinners. Our summer evenings consisted of strolls around her daylily garden looking at the new blooms. She gave us gardening tips and life advice. What a hard working person. We loved her smiles and the stories she had to tell. Lucky for us, we were UVA fans as well. Even though we moved away, we kept in touch and visited at least once a year. She loved taking us to Ethel’s for ice cream. We send our prayers to the family.

Louise was a special person. As I said to someone recently, you didn’t have to wonder what Louise was thinking. She was open and “real”, and a friend to so many of us who worked at SVCC. And even though she worked for a true Virginia Tech supporter, she never let down on her love of UVA. We will miss her so much in this community.

Louise was our neighbor for a number of years. My daughter loved to go over and talk about the flowers Louise was growing and in turn Louise kept up with all the things going on as she was growing up. We heard stories and talked about svcc and the roses. Her yard was maticulously kept. She was a wonderful person.Thank you for sharing her.

Louise was my friend and neighbor. She was just in my yard a few days before her accident. she and another neighbor shared daylily cuttings with me to start my flower garden. I will not be able to attend her services but please know my thoughts are with the family
