Martha M. Tubbs, 92, of Powhatan, Virginia passed from this life peacefully at home on December 15, 2020. She is the widow of Philip D. Tubbs.
She is survived by her son, Kelly Tubbs, of Powhatan, Virginia, and her brother Dr. Watson E. Mills, of Sharpsburg, Georgia. Martha is also survived by many nieces and nephews, along with Michael W. Wood, who was like another son to her.
Martha was a graduate of John Marshall High School in Richmond Virginia and was a volunteer nurse at Johnston-Willis Hospital where she had many friends for many years. Martha was the granddaughter of G. Whitfield Watson, who operated a store in Cullen, Virginia and was the owner of Avondale Plantation. The Watson family donated the property and was instrumental in the founding of the Cullen Baptist Church in 1915.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cullen Baptist Church. A memorial service in her honor will be held in the spring of 2021. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is serving the family.
