Nancy Johnson Baker, 78, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023. She was born on July 31, 1944. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Roger and Patty Johnson, sister Barbara Reid, brother-in-law Dave Reid, sister-in-law Hilda Johnson, and brother-in-law Edwin Baker.
She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Richard Baker; daughter, Cindy Towery (Mark); son, Chris Baker (Michele); grandsons, Nathan Towery (Nicole), and Brad Baker; granddaughters, Lindsey Towery and Kayla Baker; brother, Elton Johnson (Faye); brother-in-law, Glenn Baker (Shirley); sister-in-law, Gayle Baker; and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was raised in a Christian home and joined Bethel Baptist Church at a young age. She loved her church family and spoke highly of them often. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family. No matter how much pain she endured over the last several years she was always ready to watch her grandchildren play golf, play beautiful music and listen to her granddaughter sing.
The family will receive friends, Tuesday, May 30, 2023, starting at 10 a.m. at their home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 131 Old Well Road, Phenix Virginia 23959. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery following the service. A reception celebrating Nancy will be held in the church’s fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in Nancy’s memory to the Building Fund at Bethel Baptist Church. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
