Sheila Maxine Childress, 64 of Chesterfield, VA returned to her heavenly home on Friday, July 20, 2018. God supported her in the short struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Maxine is survived by her parents, James Page (JP) & Laura Childress. A brother, James Page (Jimmy) Childress, Jr. (Johnna) of Blackstone, VA,  and a sister, Lisa Childress Emerson (Warren), Keysville, VA.

Numerous nieces & nephews, Krystal Ashworth, Megan Webb, Molly Childress, Nick Childress, Austin Emerson, Austin Scruggs, Kayla Emerson, Olivia Emerson and two great nieces, Addison Ashworth and Teagan Emerson

Max, as she was called by family & friends, was born in Keysville, VA on August 15, 1953. She attended Randolph Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, VA.  Max resided in Chesterfield, VA all of her adult life.  It was in this community she gathered lifetime friends, neighbors and coworkers.  She was known for sending handwritten cards, letters, providing meals to those in need and being the friend you could always count on.  Max always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. Those beautiful blue eyes could light up a room!  She was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Chesterfield and worked over 30 years in the dental health care field.

Max leaves behind numerous family members & friends who cherished her.  She would want them to know that her work here is done.  Max received a type of offer that one cannot refuse.  It is the type of appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign on bonus, a reunion with family & friends she has not seen in a long time. The retirement plan is outstanding!

The family wishes to express gratitude to the hospice women who cared for Max, with love and kindness,  Ariel & Alicia.

The church service for Max will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2018, in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church 5083 Mt. Pleasant Rd. Meherrin, VA 23954, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Brain Tumor Society at www.braintumor.org., 617-924-9997. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home is serving the family.

We were just thinking about Maxine with love today. It is so very hard to know that it has been a year since her passing. She was a true treasure in so many ways with her humor, sassiness, and strong work ethic. We also admired the way she kept her home so beautifully. Max went through so many physical challenges like her mastectomy and heart surgery but always continued to smile. Even when she was in the last weeks of her illness she still looked so serene. How we miss our friend.
