William (Billy) Rodgers Evans departed this life May 5, 2021, at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 9, 1937, in Farmville, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Witherspoon Evans and Ollie Rodgers Evans Hedderly, infant granddaughter, Callie Elizabeth.
He graduated from Randolph-Henry High School in 1955 and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years active duty and four years as a reservist. Except for his years in the military and five years in Ohio before retirement, he lived his entire life in Charlotte Court House, VA. After his service he moved back to Charlotte Court House to run a restaurant before going to correspondence school to become an electrician apprentice. After receiving his certificate of apprenticeship, he took a position at Lynchburg Foundry where he served as maintenance supervisor for a total of 41 years, retiring in 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucy Hicks Evans; daughters, Catherine Trammell (John) and Caroline Watts (Jeff); sister, Kathleen E. Mitchell (Bert); lifelong childhood friend, Arnold Tharpe (Peggy); grandchildren, John R. Trammell, Jr., Theadora T. Milliron (David), Cassie M Davis, Chad William Davis, Grace Reynolds, Sara Watts; five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He enjoyed gardening and took pride in his lawn care. He loved chicken from BoJangles, coffee from Hardees, and he was an avid reader.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021, in the Evergreen Cemetery, Charlotte Court House, VA. Due to Covid-19 restrictions masks and social distancing are required. Public viewing and visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021. In lieu of flowers, consider a contribution to American Cancer Society, care of Brenda Vassar, 2915 Patrick Henry Highway, Charlotte Courthouse VA, 23923. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is serving the family.
