Betty Thompson Hubbard, age 85, of Keysville, VA, was born March 21, 1928, and died December 25, 2013. She is survived by her husband, Henry T. Hubbard; a daughter, Helen Roth Alan; a son, James Hubbard; four grandchildren, James Roth, Richard Roth, Jennifer Hubbard , Travis Hubbard; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roscoe Thompson, David Thompson, Clayton Thompson; one sister, Minnie Anderson; many nieces and nephews; a special family friend, Jeff Claar; and caregiver, Clara Hardy. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Bertha Thompson; three brothers, Lewis Thompson, George Thompson, and Earl Thompson; two sisters, Della Mendez and Dora Mendez.
Betty learned to fly at Byrd Airport in Richmond, VA. She was accomplished at sewing, egg decorating, painting, cooking, and many other things. Betty also liked boating and fishing. She was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. She was in the Eastern Star and was a worthy matron. Betty took good care of her children and her husband, and will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013, at The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, with interment to follow in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Keysville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 27, 2013, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Union Grove Baptist Church or the Meherrin Fire & Rescue. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
