Dorthie Price, 85, passed away on February 26, 2026, in Virginia, surrounded by family. She was born on March 25, 1940, in California and made Phenix, Virginia her home beginning in 1981. Dorthie lived a life defined by service, learning, and unwavering determination. She was strong‑willed, creative, funny, and a lover of good stories — qualities that shaped both her family life and her work in the community. She served as a volunteer EMT, a volunteer photographer for the Union Star, and most notably, a dedicated tutor at the Charlotte Learning Center for 26 years, where she also served on the board. Through her patient guidance and steadfast belief in the power of education, she taught countless individuals to read, opening doors that changed the course of their lives.

She found joy in gardening, puzzles, crafts, and in helping others, a thread that ran through everything she did. She was a mother, a sister, a mentor, and a friend to many. Dorthie is survived by her children: Debbie Wright and her spouse Michael; Kathie Edwards and her spouse Paul Edwards; John Davis Jr.; and Michael Davis and his spouse Yvonne. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Brown of Phenix, Virginia; eleven grandchildren; and nine great‑grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Kyle “Buddy” Price; her parents, Raymond and Bessie Bolin; and her brother, Jimmy Bolin.
