Frances Dobbins Shores

Frances Dobbins Shores, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Drakes Branch community, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026. Frances was born on February 20, 1939, the daughter of the late Thurman Ernest Dobbins and Faye Arrington Dobbins of Charlotte Court House, Virginia. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband George Shores; first husband, John Thomas Adams; her daughters, Susan Adams and Norma Jean Thomas (Timothy Thomas); her son, Anthony "Tony" Adams (Sharyn); her brothers, Gilbert Dobbins, Thurman "Junior" Dobbins, Garland Dobbins, and Edward Dobbins; her sister, Lillian Elder; and her in-laws Ruby Midcift and Hazel Saunders.

Known for her humble servant's heart, quiet, unwavering faith, and remarkable strength through life's many challenges, Frances was deeply loved by all who knew her. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, and fellowship, where family and friends were always welcomed around a good meal. She was known for her honesty and straightforward nature, speaking her mind with both courage and compassion. Frances enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading, and tending her garden. She also cherished her beloved pets and delighted in life's simple pleasures, including sharing a little ice cream with her cats. These small moments reflected the gentle, generous spirit that defined her life.

Frances is survived by her children Jeff Adams, Jill Metcalf (Frankie), Joan Adams; her step-sons, David Shores (June), Dwayne Shores (Connie); her siblings, Juanita Hylton (Donnie), Phyllis Clay (Douglas), Betty Faye Augeri (Joe), and Kenneth Dobbins (second wife Mary Lou, first wife Shirley); and her in-laws, Linda Dobbins, Margaret Kelehar, Barbara Langford (Mark), and Lawrence Shores (Josephine).

She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses: Torri Jean Hancock (Dustin), LeAnn Ferguson (Daniel), Joey Adams (Dru), Andy Adams (Michele), and Amanda Reynolds-Sperry (Phil); her great-grandchildren include: Madeline, Jack, and Claire Ferguson,

Lauralye and Daisy Adams, Sam and Abby Adams, Lincoln and Stella Reynolds-Sperry.

The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation on Monday, September 28, 2026 at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Virginia, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lebanon Church Cemetery. Pastor Red Moore will be officiating.
