Franklin Bennett Ashworth "Pop", 88, of Drakes Branch, VA, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026. He was born on July 26, 1937 in Lunenburg County, VA to the late Claude Ashworth and Estelle O'Flaherty.
Pop proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he was employed by the United States Capitol Police before relocating to Richmond, Virginia, where he continued his career with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles until his retirement in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Pembelton; son, Steve Ashworth; and grandson, Robbie Ashworth.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly seventy years, Edna Ashworth; his children, Randy Ashworth (Marie) and Ray Ashworth; grandchildren, James (Rachel), Renee (Garrett), Emily, Matt, Hunter (Courtney), Hailey, and Conner; great-grandchildren, Coen, Grayson, Parker, Camber, Claire, Cora, Holly, and Callie; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 11:00 a.m., at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA. Interment will follow at Kenbridge Heights Cemetery.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Gordon and Nancy Ashworth and DJ Letterman for their love, friendship, support, and kindness during this difficult time.
The family also extends their heartfelt gratitude to Linda Wallace and Deborah Craven for the compassionate care they provided, and to the dedicated staff of Amedisys Hospice for their kindness, support, and exceptional care during his final days. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
