John Edward Dobbins, Sr., passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the age of 88.
Edward was born June 26, 1936, at Charlotte Court House, Virginia, to the late Thurman Earnest Dobbins Sr. and Fay Arrington Dobbins. He was married to the late Eva Elam Lee Dobbins for twenty-one years. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Edward Dobbins, Jr.; three brothers, Thurman E. Dobbins, Jr., Gilbert M. Dobbins, and Garland E. Dobbins. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lillian D. Elder, and one very special grandson, Phil Fallen.
After serving in the United States Army for four years, he worked at the Burlington Industries Textile Mill in Drakes Branch, where he held many positions. After the closing of Burlington Industries, Edward worked in Greensboro, North Carolina, and O'Sullivan Industries in South Boston, Virginia, until his first retirement. His last employment was at the Phenix, Virginia Recycling Center, where he held the title of the longest working employee there.
Edward will be most remembered by his friends and family for the love he had for his late wife, Eva. He honored her and showed their happiness and love that they shared in everything that he did, and he couldn't wait for the day to come for them to be reunited in Heaven.
He had a kind and generous heart, always helping others. Edward had a special place in his heart for children, often repairing bikes and toys to give to a child in need, along with many other random acts of kindness.
Edward was equally loving and kind to his family members. Everyone was blessed to have known and loved him. His passing will leave a void in the hearts of many.
John Edward Dobbins is survived by four sisters, Frances D. Shores, Juanita D. Hylton (Donnie), Phyllis D. Clay, and Betty. D. Augeri, (Joe), and one brother, Norman Kenneth Dobbins (Mary). He is also survived by five step-daughters: Peggy Lee, Robin Jennings, Patricia Tyre, Linda Moore, and Brenda Overstreet, seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, Charlotte Court House, VA. In lieu of flowers, food, or donations to the family, please consider the Charlotte County Rescue Squad or St. Jude Children's Hospital in his memory. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
