Joseph Beverley Lammay, 78, of Keysville, Virginia passed away on May 21, 2025, after a courageous fight against heart disease, leukemia, kidney disease, and Parkinson’s. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Mary Beth Lammay, as well as his brother, Elmer (Buster) H. Lammay, Jr. (Beverly); nieces Ann Carter Phillips (Shawn) and Jane Lammay; grandchildren Piper and Nate; a sister, Phyllis Lammay Bailey (Doug), niece Julie Whittaker (Joseph), and grandchildren, Janie, JJ, and Jamisyn. He is also survived by many dear friends who were part of his family.
Born in Richmond, Virginia on June 25, 1946, Joe is the son of the late Elmer Harvey Lammay and Frances Morris Lammay. He was a 1964 graduate of Highland Springs High School and earned his BS degree in education from VCU in 1970. He began his teaching career at Keysville Elementary School and worked his way up to Randolph Henry High School. After teaching, he worked at Hampden Sydney College as a Sports Information Director, coached basketball and golf there, and later worked in the post office at Longwood College before retiring.
Joe loved sports of any kind and over the years coached kids of all ages. On his days off, he could be found on the golf course from sun up to sunset. Once retired, he enjoyed traveling with Mary Beth across the country following his other love, baseball.
A private remembrance will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and medical staff for their care and support for so many years. Also, a special thanks to good friends for being an important part of his life and just being here for him. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
