Lena Barksdale Toombs

Lena Barksdale Toombs, age 79 of Saxe, VA, left this earth for her home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 5, 2025. She was at home surrounded by loved ones when she departed. Lena was preceded in death by her husband, David Ray Toombs.

Lena was a graduate of Halifax County High School. She was very proud of over twenty-five years of employment with Wootten Brothers Greenhouse. One of her greatest passions was gardening and working with flowers. Lena faithfully tended her garden until her last days.

Lena was a beloved mother, and a devoted home maker. She spoiled her eleven grandchildren and faithfully recorded video and photography to make years of happy memories for her family to cherish. Lena loved not only her immediate family but also her extended family. She was very proud of her Halifax roots.

Lena is survived by her four children, George (Donna), Russell, Stephen, and Sarah (Tim); eleven grandchildren, Ariel, Timmy (Haley), Peter (Mary), Elise, Julia (Kevin), Alexis, Emily, Levi (Amy), Chloe (Dylan), Lily, and John; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Barksdale (Bill East); and one brother, Kent Barksdale.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Saxe Cemetery, Saxe, VA. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
