Robert Danny Adams transitioned peacefully into his heavenly home in the early morning hours of June 9, 2026. He was preceded in death by his mother, Molly Adams and father, Robert Adams. He is survived by his sister, Juanita Carlton; ex-wife, Sharyl Wessel Adams; his three children, David Adams (Laura), Beth Norton (J.P.) and Ginny Carracino (Jon); and six grandchildren, Joseph Norton, Alex Norton, Zachary Norton, Cole Carracino, Owen Carracino, and Chloe Carracino.

Danny was born on May 12, 1949 and raised on his family’s farm of 75 acres in Lunenburg County, Virginia. In his early years, the farmhouse didn’t have running water or indoor plumbing. His father raised tobacco. A mule was used in the tobacco fields before a tractor replaced it. The family had chickens, hogs, a milk cow and a large garden. It was hard work. When Danny graduated high school, he enlisted for four years in the Army. He served both in Vietnam and in Germany, working for the Army Security Agency. After he returned home, he attended Southside Virginia Community College where he met Sharyl Wessel. They were married in 1974. He graduated from Radford College and soon began working for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Stationed in South Carolina for 9 years, he was finally transferred back to his beloved state of Virginia in 1986. He spent 28 years with the FDIC before retiring as a senior bank examiner and fraud specialist.

After his retirement, he took on a new job, as grandpa. He said it was the favorite period of his life. In 2010, he moved back to his childhood home, the farm, and lived there until two and a half years ago, when he returned to Richmond because of his health. Sharyl Adams cared for him at her home until his death.

Danny loved hunting, fishing and archery. He also collected guns, Civil War and Japanese swords, WWII medals, arrowheads, and coins. He had accumulated impressive collections, most of which he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

He was known for his generous love of his children and grandchildren, his humor and wit, his voracious reading of science fiction, and his love of TV, which was his constant companion during retirement until a few days before he died.

He will be deeply missed by his family and grandchildren.
