Robert Lee "Butch" Shook Jr.

Robert Lee “Butch” Shook, Jr., age 76, of Keysville, VA passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at his home. He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Lee Shook; his father, Robert Lee “Boots” Shook Sr.; and a sister, Carolyn S. Rasmussen.

Butch was a graduate of Randolph-Henry High School. He worked at  Keysville Spinning Mill for 26 years and later owned Keysville Hardware from 1993 until his retirement. A veteran of the United States National Guard, Butch was deeply involved in his community. He was a founding member of the Charlotte County Lions Club, a volunteer for the Charlotte County Rescue Squad, and a member of the American Legion Post 260. Affectionately known as “The Stew Master,” he prepared stews for many community organizations and charities. Butch also served on the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors.

Butch is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Powell Shook; brother, Larry J. “Buddy” Shook; sister, Donna S. “Polly” Newcomb and her husband, Bobby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, with interment to follow in Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Barksdale Cancer Foundation. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
