William Carter Thompson, Jr., age 87, of Fort Mitchell, VA, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025. He was the son of the late William Carter Thompson Sr., and Dorothy Ward Thompson. Carter was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Doris Ray Beaver Thompson.
Carter is survived by his daughter, Leigh, two sons, Chad, Richard and his wife, Amy; three grandchildren, Carter, Sarah, and Owen.
Carter was a Veteran of the United States Army. He served as the Postmaster of the Fort Mitchell Post Office until his retirement. Carter also raised tobacco and beef cattle on his farm in Lunenburg County.
Carter enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and golfing. Carter also loved playing cards with family and friends, especially a good game of Rook. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2025, in Plantersville United Methodist Church, 1281 Thompson Road, Drakes Branch, VA 23937. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Carter to Plantersville United Methodist Church. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville VA is in charge of arrangements.
