After a long battle with Scleroderma, Bonnie Dodd Lawhorne, age 58, of Phenix, VA passed away August 18, 2012. She was born in Lynchburg, VA, July 12, 1954. She is survived by her father, W. Hampton Dodd of Cullen, VA, her husband Mark N. Lawhorne of Phenix, VA a daughter, Christy P. Burns and her husband, Mark of Charlotte, NC, a step-son, Stephen A. Lawhorne and his girlfriend, Emily Mason of Phenix; VA a sister Sheila D. Jones and her husband, Darrin of Phenix, VA; two granddaughters, Maddie and Rachel Burns of Charlotte, NC; a niece, Meagan Jones and her daughter, MaKenna of Charlotte, NC special friends Janet Gibson and Pam Jones; special pet, her cocker spaniel, Abbey. Bonnie was preceded in death by her mother, Carroll H. Dodd.
She was a community servant in many capacities. Bonnie was a past Town Council Member in Phenix, past member of the Charlotte County Planning Commission, lifetime member of the PTA, past ACS Volunteer, and a volunteer for the Barksdale Cancer Foundation. Her love for nursing began as a Candy Striper at age thirteen and she became a Nursing Assistant at age 16. Bonnie graduated from Amherst County High School, was a graduate of the ORT Program-at Virginia Baptist Hospital, a graduate of the Southside School of PN, and a graduate of the LCH RN School of Nursing. She loved nursing and taking care of people.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in the Oak View Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oak View Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of the arrangements.
