Florence Joynes Richards passed away suddenly at her home in Pineville, NC, on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. She was just one month shy of her 100th birthday.
Mrs. Richards was born November 30, 1913 in Norfolk, Virginia and was one of seven children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Joynes of Norfolk.

She was married to the late Jesse M. Richards, Jr., in 1945 until his passing in 1977. She was an elementary school teacher in the Prince William County school system for many years before retiring with her late husband, to Drakes Branch, VA, in 1975. After his passing, Florence moved to Keysville, VA, making her home there for thirty years. She was an active member of Keysville Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a docent for many years at Red Hill, Patrick Henry’s Home and National Memorial in Brookneal, Virginia.

She is survived by two sons, Jesse M. Richards, III and John H. Richards, along with their spouses; a daughter, Florence Richards Kupferer and her spouse; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Esther Joynes Kuhn.

Services will be held at Keysville United Methodist Church, Church St., Keysville, VA, on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Red Hill, 1250 Red Hill Road, Brookneal, Virginia, 24528
