Floyd Jackson Bailey, Jr, age 89, of Meherrin, VA died Tuesday, July 15, 2014. He was born in Lunenburg County to the late Floyd, Sr. and Sadie Bailey on February 15, 1925. Floyd served on the Virginia State Police as an officer for 8 years and the Town of Farmville Police Department as an officer and investigator for 22 years before retiring in 1991. He served as president of the Piedmont Law Enforcement Association for 1 year. Floyd is survived by his wife, Grace; four children, Claudine Ron, Jackie, Pat Barbara, Paula Jeff; five grandchildren, Laura, Jonathan Chantele, Chris Mitzi, Courtnay, Beth Keith; nine great-grandchildren, Nichole Ryan, Derek, Clint, Madison, Gage, Noah, Jesse, Dakota, Luke; one great-great grandchild, Walker; and a beloved friend, Joe.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home, with interment to follow in the Cool Springs Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Virginia, Meherrin Fire Department, or the Meherrin Rescue Squad.
