Hezekiah Banks Dodd, age 88, of Cullen, VA died May 8, 2013. He was a World War II Veteran and served in the 163rd Engineer Combat Battalion during the European Conflict. Hezzie was preceded in death by his loving first wife, Dorothy S. Dodd; brothers, James, Wesley and Eggleston Dodd; and a sister, Frances North. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Scruggs- Dodd of Cullen; his son. Garland “Butch” F. Dodd Marsha; a grandson, Wesley Dodd Kristen; a granddaughter, Anne Marie Kegley Rodney; two great-grandchildren, Lyndsey and Corey Kegley, all of Mechanicsville; a sister, Doris Pryor of Richmond; and a brother, Wilbur of West Palm Beach, Florida; three step-sons, Tommy, Eddie, and Gregg Scruggs; five step grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.
Prior to moving to Cullen Hezzie was an active member and deacon of Cool Springs Baptist Church in Mechanicsville and was currently an active member and deacon of Cullen Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the Cullen Baptist Church, with interment to follow at 3 p.m. in the Signal Hill Memorial Park, Mechanicsville, VA. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013. Memorial contributions may be made to Cullen Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Building Fund or the Charlotte County Rescue Squad.
