Jean Elder Green, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 24, 2015. She is survived by her husband, Thomas L. Green; son, Jonathan E. Green and wife, Jennifer: grandson, Landon Green; sister, Louise Davenport of Amelia; special cousin and friend, Norma Tuggle of Lynchburg; and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews. Jean was born on June 4, 1938 in Cullen, Virginia, and was the youngest daughter of the late James Oliver Elder and Lula Scruggs Elder. She graduated from Randolph-Henry High School in 1957 and soon married her high school sweetheart, with whom she would spend 58 wonderful years. Together, they would build a life in many different places, including Richmond; Lynchburg; San Antonio, Texas, Tampa, Florida, before ending up in Clarksville, their home for the past 37 years. Jean was an active member of Union Chapel Baptist Church, where she worked with the Young Hearts seniors group and taught Sunday School. Prior to her retirement, she worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant at the Mecklenburg County School Board Office. Jean had a gift for making others feel special; sharing her love with special treats made in her kitchen and beautifully wrapped presents to commemorate special occasions. Jean was a quiet woman of strong faith and drew sustenance from her Lord and Savior during her many bouts with illness. Though we mourn her passing from our midst, we rejoice in her reunion with her heavenly father.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015, in Union Chapel Baptist Church, Clarksville, VA, with interment to follow at 1 p.m., in Cullen Baptist Church Cemetery, Cullen, VA.
