Lucille Duffer Palmer, age 86, affectionately known by many as “Granny P”, of 1320 Colemans Ferry Road, Saxe, VA, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010.
Lucille was a lifelong member of Hebron United Methodist Church where she had 40 years of perfect attendance. She actively served in many positions as Trustee, Class Secretary, Choir Member, and Cemetery Fund Treasurer. “Granny P” loved flowers and made sure there were flowers in church every Sunday.
She is survived by six sons, J Lawson Palmer of Saxe, VA, Ray M. Palmer and his wife, Mitzi of Saxe, VA, Larry T. Palmer and his fiancée, Debbie of Saxe, VA, G. David Palmer and his wife, Cathy Jo of Randolph, VA, John R. Palmer and his wife, Terry of Red Oak, VA, Robert D. Palmer and his wife, Jennifer of Red Oak, VA; four grandchildren, Adam M. Palmer and his wife, Ashley; Sally Rae Palmer and Fiancé, Trey Pyle, Jasmine E. Palmer, Jay Christian Smith; a brother, Randolph L. Duffer; three sisters, Margaret “Polly” Lenhart, Virginia Hall, and Barbara Ann Averette.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Maggie Duffer; husband, J. Harper Palmer; two children, Rebecca J. and Perry W. Palmer; and a brother Gerald W. Duffer.
A Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Hebron United Methodist Church in Saxe, VA, with interment in the church cemetery, with the Reverend Al Green officiating. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, on Friday, June 18, 2010, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hebron United Methodist Church General Fund, c/o Holly Skelton, Treasurer, 14660 Kings Highway, Drakes Branch, VA 23937. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.
