Sadie Dean Johnson, 91, of Keysville, passed away on Thursday, April 11, at the home of her daughter in Newport News, Virginia, where she resided in recent years. She was born June 15, 1921, in Cana, Virginia, to the late James Husie and Rosa May Dean, and was one of seven children.
She was employed by Burlington Industries, retiring after thirty years of service. She enjoyed the outdoors, planting and growing flowers and vegetables, as well as, sewing, quilting and cooking. In the years after her retirement she took care of young children in her home, many of whom will remember her fondly.
She is survived by her children, Betty J. Roach Lynwood of Newport News; Larry N. Johnson of Williamsburg, his fiancé Cathy and her sons, Ethan and Nicholas; and Sandra J. Canter of Goldsboro, NC; five grandchildren, Todd Roach, Bo and Tate Johnson, Shannon and Shaun Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, Katje and Taylor, Dylan, Kaleb, Jordan, Gabriel, Josef and Shayelyn. She is also survived by three sisters, Luzetta Dodson, Iva Reinhardt, and Irene Zita, and by one brother, Glen Dean. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Raymond, as well as, a brother, Junior Dean, a sister, Ann Driskill, and a grandson, Chris Smith. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
A visitation will take place from 7 to 9 p.m., on Monday, April 15, at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Virginia, and funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home with Reverend Aubrey Heath, Reverend Deborah Dail, and Reverend Rusty Norton officiating. Burial will be at Eureka Baptist Church Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church. The family asks that anyone who wishes to make a donation in her honor send it to The Charlotte County Rescue Squad. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Virginia is in charge of arrangements.
