Samuel Umphlette, Sr. 72, of Keysville, VA, passed away Monday November 18, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Elizabeth Umphlett, a son Samuel “Sam” Umphlette, Jr., and nine siblings. Samuel known by many as “Sam” or “Sammy” was born on February 5, 1947. He attended Franklin High School and he was a successful businessman. Sam is survived by his daughter, Julie Gunter and husband, William, of Gladstone, six grandchildren, Brittany, George “Boo,” Jacob, Zachary,  Grayson, and Cari, two great-grandchildren,  Leland and Riley, four brothers, Charlie E. Umphlette (Shirley) of Tappohannok, VA, James H. Umphlette of Gloucester, VA, George T. Umphlette, Sr of Suffolk, VA, Robert L. Umphlette, of Franklin, VA, two sisters, Sarah Howard of Warsaw, VA, Betty Gunn of  Suffolk, VA, and numerous relatives and special friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 at Trinity Gospel Church (9470 Kings Hwy Drakes Branch, VA 23947). The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of the arrangements.

    He was always sweet to me and my sons. Every time I saw him he had a smile and always asked how my boys are doing. We will miss seeing him around town. Rest in peace Sam!
