Velda Mae Harrell Agee, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Keysville, Virginia, on April 20, 2024. She was the wife of her high school sweetheart, the late Rev. Coan Gray Agee for 66 years. They are survived by five children; Larry S. Agee and wife Lorraine, Stan P. Agee and wife Polly, Warren D. Agee and wife Kay, Doug W. Agee and wife Peggy, and Annette A. Bennett and husband Jim. She was very proud of her nine grand-children, Lynn, Neil, Stephanie, Christa, Taylor, Samantha, Austin, Dalton, and Leighanne. Her ten great-grandchildren brought her such joy; Kaden, Madalynn, Bailey, Wilton, Isabella, Lochlan, Arlo, Kennedy, Hadley, and Eller.
Born on December 29, 1930, in Meadows of Dan, Virginia to Dorsie William and Clara Stanley Harrell, she was the oldest of four children. She had one sister; Norma Harrell Cassell, and two brothers; William (Bill) Harrell and Mahlon Harrell, who have all preceded her in death. She was also raised with four double-first cousins; Evelie Harrell Agee, Reva Sue Harrell Lucas, and Armand Harrell, who have survived her, and the late Gorman Harrell.
Mrs. Agee was a 1953 graduate of Westhampton College (University of Richmond) and received a Master of Science in Education from Longwood College in 1979. In all areas of her life, she lived fully and faithfully. She ministered alongside her husband in each of the churches to which they were called. As an educator, she taught several grade levels and subjects in Powhatan and Chesterfield Counties but found Kindergarten to be her passion. She began a private Kindergarten program at Ash Camp in 1967 and subsequently taught for Charlotte County Public Schools until her retirement in 1996.
In addition to her extensive work in the church, she was an avid gardener as evidenced by her well-manicured yard and her membership in the Keysville Garden Club. She also served on the Charlotte County Library Board, was a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, the CCPS Retired Teachers Association and volunteered for Hospice. Mrs. Agee was a Christian servant, role model, and an inspiration to so many who will miss her and cherish her memory.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd at Ash Camp Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. Her family is receiving guests at the Agee residence and will host a public visitation at the church on Monday, April 22nd from 5 to 8 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to Ash Camp Baptist Capital Improvement Fund at P.O. Box 56, Keysville, VA 23947 or the Charlotte County Rescue Squad at P.O. 330, Keysville, VA 23947. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA is in charge of arrangements.

We extend our deepest sympathy and condolences on the passing our cousin Velda. She was very special to my mother, Clarabelle (Harrell) Marshall and was thought of so highly by our family. We have several memories of visiting with her on the mountain when we came from Illinois to Virginia for a visit. Velda did her best to work around plans to help host us at Aunt Clara and Uncle Dorsie; a couple times in Keysville, once with Coen who was a very nice man. She was truly a special person who had traits that will live on in all of you.
