Alma Clark Spencer was born May 18, 1917 and left this earth for her heavenly home, November 22, 2011. She moved to Cary, NC in 2008, after living in Roanoke, VA for many years. Prior to moving to Roanoke she lived in Victoria and Crewe, VA, where her husband George Spencer worked for the railroad.
She was preceded in death by her husband. Her son, Ed Dunnavant, wife, Kathy, live in Cary, NC. Alma’s two granddaughters, Allison and Betsy were always close to her heart. She has four great-grandchildren, Anna, Joseph, Nate, and Naomi living with their parents Allison and Dan Geijer in Thailand. This spring Alma saw all of the great-grandchildren in Cary and was able to hold Naomi, the youngest, who was only six months old.
Her niece, Harriet Doty and her husband Ron shared many wonderful memories with her while she was living near them in Roanoke, VA. They also provided special care and encouragement for Alma as they were the closest family living near her. Their two daughters Renee and Ros often referred to her as “a second Grandmother” while they were growing up. Nieces Beverly Duffer and Lorraine Agee live in Keysville, VA, Alma’s birthplace. Other nieces and nephews, Emily Condrey, Susan Eddleton, Ellen Smith, Susie Carroll, Julie Gaking, Ginny Burnette, and Doc Smithson live throughout the Southeast.
Funeral services will be at the Victoria Baptist Church, Victoria, VA, 2:00 PM, Friday, November 25, 2011. Burial will follow immediately at Ash Camp Baptist Church Cemetery, Keysville, VA. The family will greet friends at the church one hour before the service begins at 2:00 PM.
Following interment at Ash Camp all friends are invited to join the family at Sheldon’s Restaurant and Motel, Keysville, VA for a time of fellowship and sharing of memories. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
