Carter Luther Roach, 94, of Phenix, VA, passed away on April 4, 2013. He was born on August 23, 1918, to the Late William and Gertrude Roach of Phenix.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Esther Foster Roach; a son, Millard Roach and wife, Joyce, of Chesterfield; a daughter, Margaret Lee Tuck and husband James, of Randolph; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roach was a life-long resident of Phenix, Virginia, where he met his one love, Esther Lee Foster. They began dating on Valentine’s Day, 1938, and have been inseparable for the past 75 years.
Mr. Roach proudly served in the armed forces during World War II. After the war, he returned to Phenix, where he worked at Canada’s Market until his retirement. Upon retirement, he devoted time to his family especially his great-grandchildren and to helping neighbors with their tobacco crops. His greatest joy in life was his family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Phenix Presbyterian Church, where he was a life-long member. A graveside service at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Centra Hospice, Farmville 713 Oak Street, Farmville, VA, 23901, to the Charlotte County Rescue Squad, to the New Hope Cemetery Fund, or to the Phenix Presbyterian Church.
The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
