Doris Holt Claybrook died peacefully with the grace and dignity with which she lived on May 18, 2017. She was born on March 9, 1934, to the late Cecil M. Holt and Helen M. Holt. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Leland A. Claybrook, and a brother, Glen Holt.
Doris graduated from William Campbell High School, where she was voted most athletic and most witty by her classmates. She kept her quick wit her entire life. Doris was a charter member of the Keysville Garden Club where she held the office of treasurer and co-chairman. She enjoyed the beauty of flowers and the company of good friends. Doris was an active member of Ash Camp Baptist Church. She enjoyed her Sunday school class and Women on Mission activities. Doris served as chairman of the flower committee of Ash Camp for many years and loved making sure flowers were arranged each Sunday for church. She took great pride in decorating the church for Christmas with poinsettias and lilies for Easter. Doris was employed for over 30 years by State Farm Insurance, assisting Leland with running the office. He was the salesman and she was the woman that kept the business together.
Doris is survived by her son, Randall W. Claybrook Conni; daughter, Sari C. Goff Ben five grandchildren, Joshua A. Goff of Newport News, VA, Matthew R. Claybrook Amanda of Mouth of Wilson, VA, Emily B. Goff and Fiancé, Mark Trkula of Arlington, VA, Chad W. Claybrook of Virginia Beach, VA, and Calli F. Claybrook of Martinsville, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine Harper of Lynchburg, VA; a niece, Brenda Davidson Mike of Brookneal, VA; a special friend, Russell Baker; and a host of extended family and friends. She always enjoyed the company of dogs and her last faithful companion was Pippa.
Flowers were her passion and memorial contributions may be made to Ash Camp Baptist Church in Keysville, VA, or a church of your choice. A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home and the funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Ash Camp Baptist Church with interment to follow in Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is serving the family.
