Elizabeth Irby Bass, widow of Gordon Shakleton Bass, of Keysville died June 13, 2010 in a retirement home in Windsor, VA. Mrs. Bass had lived in Suffolk and then in Windsor since moving from Keysville 7 years ago. Born February 8, 1912, she was the oldest daughter of Joseph Cabell and Ellie Johnson Irby of Blackstone. She was also predeceased by her only sister, Margaret Irby Andrews. She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter in Keysville and a member of the Keysville United Methodist Church. She attended Blackstone College and then worked as the office manager of Williams Department Store in Blackstone. She later worked as secretary/bookkeeper for Hanmer Motor Co. in Keysville. She had no children and is survived by her nieces, Susan Andrews Terry of Suffolk , and Carolyn Bass Armentrout of Wytheville and a nephew, Tab Bass of Richmond. A graveside service will be held at Ash Camp Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on June 15 by Rev. Coan Agee . In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Keysville United Methodist Church or a charity of ones choice. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
