Joseph Estes Ponton age 81, of Cullen, VA, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Joe is survived by his wife, Shelby W. Ponton; two sons, Lee Ponton and wife, Jeanette of Red Oak, VA, Joseph “Chip” Ponton III and wife, Betty of Salem, VA; four step-daughters, Betty Richardson and husband, David of Pamplin, VA, Wanda Beagle and husband, Wayne of Keysville, VA, Bonnie Sorrells and husband, Steve of Forest, VA; Lisa Womack and husband, Jerry of Lynchburg, VA.; nineteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2012 at the Spring Creek Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wylliesburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the Hospice Staff and Oncology Department of Centra Health for their exceptional care. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
