Joseph “Joe” William Canfield, age 67, of Keysville, VA, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at his home. He served as a Sergeant in the Army and in the Coast Guard Reserves; a Sergeant for the New Jersey Police Department for 24 years, worked in Major Crimes in Florida for 7 years, served as a consultant for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Joe taught Bloodhound Search and Rescue for thirty years, in 2007, he started Joe Canfield Mantrailing Bloodhounds.
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Debbie H. Canfield; a stepdaughter, Shelly Townsend. Joe was preceded in death by his partner Kirby.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015, in Friendship Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery, Drakes Branch, VA. The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, on Friday, July 24, 2015, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.

    Sorry to hear of Joe’s passing.. I was in Germany with him and we played in a band together. I just found this Obit and had been wondering why I had not been able to find him for a few years. Would love to hear from you and get an update on his life. We last talked back somewhere around 2005 – 06 if I remember right. Wondering if you happen to have an address for one of the other band members Timothy Messer or Roger ??? escapes me right this minute. Thanks, He was a great friend back then… Steve Everley
