Lawrence Clay Longerbeam Sr., age 86, of Red House VA, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011.
Lawrence served in the U. S. Army Air Corps; he was an Aerial Gunner, an Assistant Engineer, and a Turret Gunner on “The Flame McGoon” B24 Liberator that was shot down at Bor, Yugoslavia on July 31, 1944. He was a P. O. W. for 270 days. He received the Central European Battle Star, The Air Medal with 1 leaf cluster, and The P. O. W. Medal 513th Sqdn. 376th Bomb Group 15th Air Force
On October 27, 1945, he married the love of his life, Doris Marie Goudreau, in Arlington, VA, and worked as a carpenter until retirement in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Longerbeam; six children, Janet Marie Howard Gregory, Lawrence C. Longerbeam Jr., Gary Alan Longerbeam, Cindy Irene Longerbeam Warren Kreykenbohm, Albert Lloyd Longerbeam, Susan Ellen Carter Paul; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service to be held at a later date in Ebenezer Cemetery, in Bluemont, VA. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
