Ruth Carrington Owen Devin

Ruth Carrington Owen Devin, 89, of Wylliesburg, died at home on July 14, 2014. She was born in Randolph, VA to Donald McPhail Owen, Sr. and Rena Lacks Owen. Ruth, a 1942 graduate of Randolph-Henry High School, worked at Goodyear Aircraft Corporation in Akron, Ohio as a riveter. Returning to Virginia after the war, Ruth married John Acree Devin. She took an active part in their business from managing the office to raising birds for their shooting preserve the “Hollow Log Hunting Lodge.” After her husband’s death, she continued to take an active part in her family’s business up until her recent illness. Ruth loved her church, Wylliesburg Baptist, where she served on the social, finance, and building fund committees. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and baking for friends and family. She is survived by her four children J.A. Devin, Jr. and Tracey, William “Bill” Devin, A. Tune Devin and Linda all of Wylliesburg, Virginia and Ann D. Brankley and David of Clarksville, Virginia. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Andrea D. Zito, Lindsey B. Puryear, Sarah Brankley, Adam Devin, Acree Devin, Dylan Devin, Megan Devin, Elizabeth Devin, and three great grandchildren Colton Devin, Cole Puryear, and Ava Fox. She also leaves behind special friends Judy Townsend, Hazel Jones, Linda Snyder, Patricia Jones, and Jessica Royster, who provided loving care to her. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John Acree Devin Sr.
The visitation is from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Virginia. The funeral service will follow the next day at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Wylliesburg Baptist Church in Wylliesburg, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wylliesburg Baptist Church building fund. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
