Virginia Price Waller was an educator in the public schools in Virginia and North Carolina. She taught and inspired many young people. She entered into eternal peace to be with the Lord on October 1, 2014, in Midlothian, Virginia. Mrs. Waller was the widow of Charles Curtis Waller who died April 7, 2005 after 56 years of marriage.
Mrs. Waller was born in Meherrin, Virginia in 1918, the daughter of the late Matthews Samuel and Louise Meyer Price. She was a resident of Henderson, North Carolina for more than thirty years and returned to Meherrin in 1983, living there until 2001, when she moved to Brandermill Woods in Midlothian.
After graduating from Longwood University, Mrs. Waller formally began a career in education that spanned thirty-six years. She held various positions including teacher, principal, supervisor, and director of curriculum and personal services in the public schools of Lunenburg and Prince Edward Counties in Virginia and the Vance County Schools and Henderson City Schools in North Carolina.
Mrs. Waller was awarded a masters degree and an advanced certificate from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Her studies met the requirements for a doctoral degree in education lacking only the writing of a dissertation.
Mrs. Waller was awarded the Longwood College Alumni Achievement Award in 1988 and a life membership on the Board of Directors in the organization of the NC Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. The Longwood Student Education Association named their 1987 Scholarship Fund, “The Virginia Price Waller Education Scholarship”. She and her late husband also funded the Charles Curtis & Virginia Price Waller Scholarship at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.

Mrs. Waller held executive positions in many of her professional organizations including: NC Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; National ASCD Board of Directors; Division of Supervisors and Directors of Instruction District 11 NCAE; Longwood College Alumni Board; and NC Retired School Personnel. She co-authored the book, “Memories of Meherrin” published in 1998. Mrs. Waller also contributed articles to: The Heritage of Charlotte Co., VA 1765-2007; Prince Edward County, VA Heritage 1754-2008; and The Lunenburg County Heritage Book.
Mrs. Waller was a life member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Meherrin, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She served as an organist, trustee, and secretary and taught a confirmation class. Mrs. Waller attended services every Sunday until her health prevented it. At the time of her death she was a member of Xi chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma; NC Retired School Personnel; NC and National Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; Colonial Dames 17th Century; Daughters of the American Revolution, and Lunenburg Historical Society.
Mrs. Waller was preceded in death by two brothers: Matthews S. Price, Jr., Julian H. Price, and a sister Margaret Price Koehler. She is survived by sisters-in-law Christine F. Price of Farmville, Virginia, Blanche W. Betts of Elgin, Illinois, Jeanne Waller of Midlothian, Virginia, Pauline Waller of Greenville, North Carolina, beloved nieces, nephews, and caregivers.
Mrs. Waller was dearly loved and was kind and generous. Virginia was a big believer in work and duty, and above all, she was a devout Christian.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Meherrin Virginia Free State Road with the Reverend Robert H. Wind, Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in the Price Family Cemetery in Meherrin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 92, Meherrin, VA 23954 or to one of her scholarship funds.
