On February 12, 2013, God called home Winifred Childress Howard, of Pamplin, VA and formerly Abilene, VA. She was born in Lynchburg, VA on March 28, 1921 and was the wife of the late John O. Howard of Abilene, VA for 63 years and the daughter of the late Forest and Bertha Childress of Phenix, VA
Winifred was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Abilene, VA and served as the Clerk of the Church, taught Sunday school for 55 years and was active in various organizations within the community including the WMU.
Winifred is survived by her only child, Carol Thomas Richardson Puckett of Pamplin, grandchildren, Dwayne Howard Mitchell, Lynchburg, Dana Dave Gunn, Appomattox, Stacey Lee Drinkard, Appomattox, Shane Michelle Richardson, Pamplin; great grandchildren, Amber Stiles, Samantha Kent Almond, Derick Lawson, Quinton Womack, Hayden Drinkard, Tyler Whitt, Talton Richardson; great-great grand children, Peyton Clark, Asher Stiles, Kennedy Almond. Winifred had 3 brothers, Clinton late-Dolly Childress of Darlington Heights, J.P. Laura Childress of Keysville, and the late William Hazel Childress.
Family night will be held Friday, February 15, 2013 at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home, Keysville, VA from 6-8p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Abilene, VA at 2:00 p.m. with the burial following in the church cemetery. Services will be conducted by Reverend Anthony Reeves, pastor of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.

Winifred touched so many lives in her 91 years of life and will be greatly missed. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
